DOES GOD EXIST?

What does the Bible say?

The first four words in the Bible says “In the beginning God” and the rest of the sentence says…”created the heavens and the earth.” So, God existed prior to the creation of “the heavens” (the universe-all the galaxies) and the “earth” this small remote comparative speck in the universe, that we call home. But, our home is so special that there is none like it in the universe and we shall discuss the proof of that later. Should we believe what the Bible says? See the article on this site entitled “Is the Bible Authentic?” Based on those arguments (reasonings), the Bible is the inspired word of God and is one of several ways that God is revealed. That wondrous library of books and letters “shouts” the existence of a loving Creator God. The Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Romans, chapter 1 verses 19-20…”Since what may be known about God is plain to them” (meaning the godless and wicked men who suppress the truth in verse 18), “because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men ARE WITHOUT EXCUSE (emphasis added-New International Version or NIV).  So, by just looking at this wonderful world surrounded by an awesome universe, we can discern God’s creational handiwork. In the book of Psalms, chapter 19 verses 1-3, it says “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard” (NIV). Again, creation itself proves God’s existence. 

Who is God?

God is the Sovereign Creator and Ruler of the universe. Everything that is anything is God’s creation, including us. Thus, God is over all things and we are His beloved children. We cannot describe God fully with our limited human abilities. God is invisible to us but more real than anything He created. God is all knowing (Omniscient), all powerful (Omnipotent) and present everywhere at the same time (Omnipresent). God is not hindered by space and time, which He created, as we are. He is a distinct, spiritual being and the ONE and ONLY God. There are no other gods but Him. We humans have made up false gods and idols as part of our rebellion against God. Anything, that we crave or covet (want) that takes our minds and hearts away from Him are false idols such as wealth, lust, ego, disrespect, mockery, and anything sinful that separates us from God. The best and most descriptive word that describes God is LOVE. “His love endures forever” is a common and repeated saying in the Bible. God loves us, pursues us and wants a personal relationship with us. Luke, the author of the gospel book of his name recorded Jesus’ story that described God in Chapter 15 verses 11-32, “The Prodigal Son;” A story about a rebellious son (us) who took his inheritance early, frittered it away on wild living and returned to his Father (God) asking to be a hired worker. The Father saw him coming, RAN to greet him and reestablished him to his original relationship as a beloved son. The gospel of Matthew, chapter 20, records a story Jesus told about the way God thinks. He (Jesus) told of a vineyard owner (God) who went to town to find workers and hired some early in the morning and promised them a full daily wage. He repeated this several times, during the day, up until an hour before quitting time. He then had all the workers paid the same amount and even paid the last ones hired FIRST. His generous ways are certainly not our ways and His thoughts are so much higher than our thoughts. God is referred to by several names in the Bible such as El(power), El Oah (Mighty), El Ohim (strong Creator), El Shaddai (God Almighty), Adonai (Lord), Jehovah (Lord, I am that I am), YHWH (a name the Jews preferred not be uttered but others pronounce as Yah-weh) and other variations of that name. When Moses asked God what his name was in order to tell the enslaved Israelites who sent him, God told him…”I AM WHO I AM” (emphasis added)…”say to the Israelites: I am has sent me to you.” (Exodus chapter 3, verse 14, NIV).  Again, refer to the article on this site entitled “Is the Bible Authentic” which explains that God has manifested (appeared) as the Trinity (Three in one and one in three). God loves us so much, He was willing to send Himself as Jesus Christ into the world to give us the gift of all gifts-SALVATION by dying on the cross to take all our sins, past, present and future on Himself, so that we, by faith in Christ, could have eternal life in Heaven with God. He is that loving. 

Scientific proof of God’s existence:

Dr. Hugh Ross, PhD Astronomer and a Christian Minister, has worked many years with professional and volunteer scientists in cataloging the “fine-tuning” of physical features of the universe necessary to sustain life, Why the Universe is the Way it is, Baker Books, Grand Rapids, MI, 2008. Research of the Supercluster, Local Group, Milky Way Galaxy, our solar system and our planet Earth, for a period from 1995 to 2006 indicates an ever increasing number of features that require fine-tuning to sustain life as we know it. This number was 41 in 1995 and increased to 676 in 2006. We must assume it is likely to be even greater presently. The statistical probability that another planet could have these same features, using scientific notation was 10 to the power of -31 or 10-31 initially and was 10-556 in 2006. We commonly think of odds of one in a million as impossible. In 2006 the odds were one in 46 trillion and even higher to sustain “high-tech” human life as one in 87 trillion. Thus, we have to conclude that the Earth is a unique body in the universe that God made for us. And, He made us for Him. There are Atheistic (those that do not believe in God) scientists that have had to admit that the universe had to be the design of a superior intellect. Even Richard Dawkins, an infamous Atheist, has reluctantly admitted that Christianity…”may be our best defense against aberrant forms of religion that threaten the world.” Does God exist?
